A hero in our midst: Congrats to Shashi Jain on being recognized for helping young entrepreneurs

Sometimes, even the most startuppy of us has a day job. But when you can combine that day job with the opportunity to teach others about entrepreneurship? Then you’ve got something good going. And no one does a better job of keeping a foot in both camps than our own Shashi Jain. And now, he’s getting the recognition he so richly deserves.

Shashi has been named the Intel Involved Global Hero for 2015.

For the past 3 years, I’ve been volunteering as Instructor and Curriculum designer for the excellent Oregon TiE Youth Entrepreneurs (TYE) program. Being part of a young person’s entrepreneurial journey, showing them the methods and tools to turn ideas into opportunities, is one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. That moment when they realize they can find their customer, that they can build it themselves, that they have a skill that others value, that it’s possible for them to be an entrepreneur- that’s magical.

When I returned to Intel in late 2014, after almost 2 years on my own, I thought I’d have to dial back my participation in TYE and focus in on my “day job.” My first 1:1 with my senior manager ended with one request- don’t stop, turn it up. I was pleasantly shocked at how supportive Intel has been for my passion projects.
